A perfect match

Why is rubber so ideal for seals? Because of its memory. This is clearly evident in the various types of rubber seals available. For many of our customers, we create custom seals to ensure they perform perfectly in any application.

WHY RUBBER IS USED IN SEALS

Rubber has memory and is wear-resistant, making it ideal for seals. It can deform under pressure without breaking or being damaged, and it always returns to its original shape.

Rubber seals are found in the smallest everyday objects, such as a tap, or in larger items like a manhole cover. When designing a seal, it is important to ensure the grade of rubber used is suited to both the application and the medium it will contact. For example, a seal that comes into contact with oil requires a different type of rubber than one exposed to water. There are many different grades of rubber, which can often be supplied with specific certifications or standards.

TYPES OF RUBBER SEALS

Rubber seals come in many shapes and sizes. At RIS Rubber, we manufacture numerous seals for butterfly valves and dredge valves used on dredging vessels. We also produce seals for bottom doors and navigation locks. These larger seals exceed the size of our moulding machines and are constructed from lengths and corners. We vulcanise the sections together to create a complete seal.

Many seals are made entirely of rubber, but RIS also produces variants reinforced with metal inserts.  For example, metal rings are added to make the seals suitable for heavy-duty conditions involving high pressures and significant wear.

Each seal presents unique challenges, and at RIS Rubber, we deliver tailored solutions every time.
